The head of the European Union Observer Mission at the Kenyan presidential election has defended its largely positive initial report. Speaking to the BBC, after the Supreme Court ordered a new vote within 60 days because of irregularities, Marietje Schaake said the report also included criticisms of preparations for the vote.

The Speaker of the US House of Representatives has urged President Trump not to rescind a program that protects young undocumented migrants from deportation. Republican Paul Ryan said Mr. Trump should let Congress fix the program.

The British government Minister leading negotiations on leaving the European Union has defended free trade and argued against economic isolationism in a speech to US business leaders in Washington. David Davis acknowledged that difficult discussions lay ahead in Brexit negotiations but said he remained optimistic that a deal would be reached.

The French football club, Paris Saint-Germain, has expressed surprise that it's been placed under a formal investigation by European football's governing body, UEFA, over its well-record signing of the Brazilian striker Neymar. PSG said it had kept UEFA informed about all player transfers.

Thousands of people in Argentina have been taking part in a march to protest against the disappearance of a human rights activist in Patagonia a month ago. Security was beefed up ahead of the demonstration in central Buenos Aires.

The Syrian democratic forces battling the Islamic State group in its stronghold of Raqqa say they have captured the last districts in its historic old quarter. Monitors have not been able to confirm the claim.
