London displays fireworks over Big Ben, London Eye

Most parts of the world have entered the New Year of 2016. People around the globe are celebrating.

London ushered in the New Year with an impressive display of fireworks over its iconic Big Ben clock tower and the London Eye.

Tokyo rang in the New Year with a countdown event. People gathered around the Zojoji temple and released balloons containing new year's wishes before watching a lighting and fireworks display at the iconic Tokyo Tower.

In Sydney, about one million people gathered along the city's famous harbor to usher in the New Year. A glittery display featured a multi-coloured fireworks "waterfall" cascading off the Harbour Bridge, and pyrotechnic effects that took the shapes of butterflies, octopuses and flowers.

Auckland, New Zealand, was one of the first major cities in the world to ring in the New Year. The Auckland sky lit up with a colorful display emanating from the Sky Tower as the clock struck midnight.
